Here’s what alumni have said about about the Masterclass
Hello,
I am currently a member of the masterclass and we've exchanged emails a couple of times.
Guess what? I just accepted a job offer for an associate professor position!
I'd been between jobs since January and not entirely sure what was next. During that time I applied for a few faculty positions and also signed up for your masterclass after having searched for tips on job talks, teaching demos, and general academic interviewing. I am still working my way through the masterclass, but it has already improved my teaching, and I must say that it helped me knock my job talk out of the park :D
I've attached it here and I am pretty pleased with it. Never in a million years would I have thought to do it like this because, you know, we're "supposed" to just make everything as formal and "professional" (i.e. boring) as possible. If I had not taken your class I would have made the same predictable powerpoint with a template, maybe 10 slides tops for the whole 35-45 minutes and no visual appeal whatsoever. This one here is so much more "me."
Before your class I did not know anything about anything that you taught about. I had zero clue about how to properly use images or the potential for different fonts and icons. I would have been perfectly fine with using 12 point font or smaller, and *all* the design ideas. As I made this thing I was squee-ing about the ink replay effect and other animations I had on slide 5 :) As I was finishing it I thought to myself that I would love to meet this person that the powerpoint was about - what a cool person :)
So yay!!!
hank you, and I look forward to finishing and re-reviewing the masterclass. I had skipped over the data visualization class since that was not a priority as I have no data to present right now and I figured class #4 was way more relevant to my needs.
Okay, thank you a million! Yay!!!
Molly

I’ve also worked with some course alumni 1:1
(after they completed at least some of the course)
Client case study (Job Talk)
Dr. Isabel García Valdivia
Dr. García Valdivia first completed my online professional development program and a 1-and-1 session as a graduate student.
She had been implementing her updated presentation design strategies for a while…
…Then, when it was time for her academic job talk, she reached out and we did four 1-and-1 sessions.
She did four campus visit interviews and received three offers!
See a case study: Dr. Tehout Selameab’s Dissertation Intensive
Dr. Selameab was burned out and had a lot on her plate, but she needed to get her dissertation done, fast.
We did a full-day intensive. Check out what we accomplished in just one day.
We were able to accomplish this much because:
She had previously taken my online professional development course and we did not have to spend any time on training.
She had an excellent script that needed almost no work at all — it was full of the key takeways, and told an engaging story from start to finish.
She already had some visuals from her dissertation that we could use.
Client case study (Keynote)
Dr. Tanya Golash-Boza
Dr. Golash-Boza first completed Fail-Proof Slide Design and then reached out for 1-and-1 services to improve her keynote.
She already had a recording of her delivering the keynote, so we customized the service.
I spent the first “session” watching (independently) the recording and provided written feedback about the script/storyboard and delivery.
Then, we met 1-and-1 on Zoom to review the feedback and improve the visual slides of her keynote.
…Years later, Dr. Golash-Boza continues to receive compliments about her presentation design and organization!

And here’s what people have said about the first version of the Presentation Skills Masterclass.
(formerly known as Blast Off to Stellar Slides!)
The current masterclass is the new and improved version of my original program, Blast Off to Stellar Slides!
Still, this archive of case studies highlights some great before & after makeovers!
